Seawatch at Sunset Harbor®
Chosen as Site for Coastal Living 2009 Idea House
We are pleased that our beautiful seafaring village by the sea was chosen as the site for the 2009 Coastal Living Idea House. According to Nicole Hendrick, Idea Home Manager for Coastal Living, “Over the past 10 years we have been looking at what was happening in Brunswick County. Last year we looked at Seawatch at Sunset Harbor® and it was love at first sight. They have a good vision for today and for generations to come, great architecture, and a commitment to using sustainable products to protect the environment. Overall, Seawatch® has it all.”
The Seawatch at Sunset Harbor® community consists of 3,000 acres of maritime forests, tranquil winding creeks and ponds, and beautiful views of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. The 2009 Coastal Living Idea House will be an original Cape design by Guidry-Coastal Architecture and local master builder, Mark Saunders Luxury Homes®, and will be located in the Tidal Village of Victoria overlooking the peaceful tidal waters of Mercer Mill Creek and lush wildlife preserve areas.

According to lead architect, Sam Guidry, the 2009 Idea House will combine the Cape architecture common to New England with elements that are distinctly coastal North Carolina. “It’s a style that will be uniquely Seawatch®, blending traditional and nautical themes,” he said.
At approximately 6,000 square feet, the 2009 Idea House will nestle into a ½ acre+ hilltop homesite with magnificent views of Mercer Mill Creek and lush preserve areas. The homesite’s natural elevation will offer a dual level opportunity to build three stories that from the front of the house, appear to be a single level design. From the back, the house will be grander than the front façade suggests, with an impressive walk out basement level. Additional design considerations will include thoughtful outdoor living spaces with kitchen and dining area, sleeping porch, bunkroom, recreation room, kayak storage room, spectacular master bedroom, bath, kitchen, and a top floor gathering room with fireplace.
Coastal Living Idea Houses are nationally recognized by the magazine’s three million readers as the best designed, constructed, and decorated homes in the country and present readers with the newest coastal trends, from architectural elements to building products to home design. National and local sponsors who partner with Coastal Living on the 2009 Idea House will enjoy unprecedented promotion of their products and services.
“The Seawatch community has been extremely appealing to our national sponsors and many have already signed on for the project including Phillip Sides of Phillip Sides Interior Design in Montgomery, Alabama, Bevolo Lighting, Belgard Pavers, Uponor, Valspar Paint, Stanley Furniture, Agio Outdoor Furniture, Sunbrella Fabrics, J. Tribble Antiques, and Delta Faucets,” Hendrick said. “Coastal Living is thrilled about the coastal, timeless, desired lifestyle Seawatch represents. It will be very appealing to our readers.”
Each neighborhood in the Seawatch at Sunset Harbor community is focused on the surrounding habitat. Reserved and protected natural spaces and recreation areas are designed to benefit the entire community. Planned amenities reflect this environmental regard including a 23-acre amenity park, more than 20 miles of walking and biking trails, Kayak & Canoe Clubhouse, beach club on Oak Island, marina*, and direct access to the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
After the home is completed in late summer, the Coastal Living 2009 Idea House will be extensively featured in the November 2009 issue of the magazine. Tours will be available in the fall with proceeds going to support various local charitable organizations.
